Getting rid of blackheads at home

Let's face it.
Our skin is not perfect but we must make it our duties to take care of that canvas!
I cant tell you how many times during the past few weeks, women have asked me what they can do about their black heads. These can be very unflattering and can eventually lead to acne and uneven skin texture.

What are black heads?

A blackhead, or open comedo is a wide opening on the skin with a blackened mass of skin debris covering the opening.

Despite their name, some blackheads can be yellowish in color. A comedo is a widened hair follicle which is filled with skin debris, bacteria and oil (sebum).
If you have oily skin, you are more prone to blackheads.

What can I do to remove them?

This trick is olden but golden. All you need are these three items!

  • Lime Juice

  • Baking Soda

  • A small bowl

Mix the lime juice and baking soda into a paste (the consistency of puree` and watch it bubble!) ,then rub onto the skin. It's going to feel like it's stinging a bit, but that is just the lime juice acids working.
Cleansing your face with lime may help keep acne-causing bacterial growth at bay. Limes possess natural antibiotic properties, tightens pores and improves complexion.

The baking soda acts as a mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that can ease inflammation, opens your pores and make your skin look better .It acts as an exfoliator, so massage the paste into the areas that have the the most problems (nose, cheeks, chin).

Let sit for about 5 minutes, wash off with your favourite oil combating face wash cleaner, pat dry and feel the difference! Your face should feel as soft as a baby's bum.

How often should I do this paste?

If you are an daily makeup user, I suggest you do this paste once per week. If not, once every two weeks is fine.

In all, baking soda and limes should be your besties and partners in the fight against blackheads and uneven skin. In Trinidad lime trees are coveted, so if your neighbour has a tree, make sure to be besties with them too! Ha!
